SACRED SPRING6-Week Somatic Writing Groupfor Exploring & Embracing Change

Spring is an auspicious time for healing, tending to our personal growth, and navigating life changes. The Exodus from Egypt, commemorated over Passover every spring, and Easter, which comes shortly after the Spring Equinox, both hint at this season's possibilities of liberation.

Our group name, Sacred Spring, is a nod to the spring holidays that honor the divine operating in this season, and it also points to the quiet miracle of our human bodies, where our life force has been residing all our lives, like an underground spring.

Over 6 online meetings, we will enter via different access points to connect to the flow of this creative energy, which feels present both in and around us at this time of year. We follow an overarching sequence that honors the journey of human transformation, from constriction and struggle to expansion and freedom, based on themes from Exodus.

At each meeting, we will explore readings that touch on the weekly theme, engage in somatic meditation, do individual expressive writing or art, and have some time for optional sharing in the group and or in small breakouts.

The somatic meditations are nuanced, guided meditations that invite us to deepen and ground our somatic and emotional awareness. Based on the principles of NeuroAffective Touch, they help us engage with the theme of each week somatically, deepening our journey.

NeuroAffective Touch was developed by Dr. Aline LaPierre, a pioneering somatic psychotherapist, as a bridge to help us cross the mind-body divide in personal healing and growth processes. This group is inspired by her work and its creative and spiritual applications.

Overview

Week 1

Narrow Places

As spring unfolds, the tempo of life increases. If we have a lot on our plate or are going through a life transition, we may overcompensate or start to feel overwhelmed, when we would rather grow with ease and find moments for reflection.

In week 1, we start where we are by paying gentle attention to the breath, writing about or drawing the constrictions and frictions in our lives, and honoring our historical struggles.

Week 2

Partings

In week 2, we explore the question of what can be left behind us or let go of in this season of our personal journey to allow us to move or live more freely.

We resource ourselves by finding our midline and the ground underneath us, and we write to invite the release of whatever no longer serves us, which in some cases was never really ours to begin with.

Week 3

The Wilderness

The winds of change can stir up fear, confusion, and grief. By acknowledging where we feel betwixt and between, we can drop together into the space of not knowing, where we can pause and just be.

From here, we can begin to feel and sense our way forward intuitively rather than overthink or avoid. Week 3 invites new alignments and insights to arise.

Week 4

Nourishment

When a baby is born, there is an important transition from receiving nutrients from the umbilical cord to using the lungs for oxygen and the digestive tract for nutrition.

In week 4, we bring gentle focus to our bellies and take stock of where we feel nourished in our lives, where we do not, and what new forms of support and guidance we may want to call upon.

Week 5

The Voice

It is often that still, small voice within that speaks words of great power and wisdom. In week 5, we focus on the neck and thoracic inlet, attending to the delicate yet powerful physical container for our human voice.

Through opening the throat energetically, we can loosen the reins on deep feelings we have held back, and articulate deep truths.

Week 6

New Vistas

In our final meeting, we tend to our hard-working eyes and ears, seeing and listening to what is shifting in us, reflecting on where and who we now are, and reaffirming what has always been whole inside of us.
